Bluestone Mining & Smelting Railroad No. 1. This locomotive is a standard gauge two-truck “Heisler” type. The geared locomotive was built in 1916 by the Heisler Locomotive Works of Erie, Pennsylvania. It traversed a steep 2.5 mile line between the Bluestone Mine high in the mountains and a connection with the Nevada Copper Belt Railroad at Mason, Nevada. The locomotive later served the Blake Brothers quarry near Richmond, California. It was preserved for many years in private ownership near Willits, California and was restored to operation there. It is currently owned by Chris Baldo and operates at Roots of Motive Power in Willits.
