Virginia & Truckee No. 1, Lyon

Virginia & Truckee No. 1, Lyon

Virginia & Truckee No. 1, Lyon. The Lyon was built by the Union Iron Works in San Francisco in 1869.  It had the distinction of pulling the first revenue trains on the V&T.  The original Lyon was retired by 1880 and scrapped at Carson City in approximately 1900.  The current Lyon is a faithful replica of the original and was begun by Stanley Gentry of Mason City, Iowa over twenty years ago.  It was donated to the Nevada State Railroad Museum in 2020 and is currently being completed for eventual steam operations.
