Virginia & Truckee Railroad No. 22
Virginia & Truckee Railroad No. 22, “Inyo.” Inyo is a 4-4-0 standard gauge “American” type locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1875. The locomotive served as a passenger locomotive for the Virginia & Truckee where its highly polished bright work earned it the nickname “Brass Betsy.” It was retired from active service in 1926 and later sold to Paramount Pictures. The locomotive had starring roles in movies such as Union Pacific, High Wide and Handsome, The Great Locomotive Chase and McLintock. It was restored to operation at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in 1983, where it remains active.
