Virginia & Truckee Railroad No. 25

Virginia & Truckee Railroad No. 25.  No. 25 is a 4-6-0 “Ten Wheeler” type standard gauge locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1905.  It pulled freight and passenger trains between Reno, Carson City, Virginia City and Minden. It served the railroad in various duties, including being fitted with a wedge snow plow to keep the line open during harsh winters.  It was sold to a movie studio in 1941 and was featured in a number of films.  It was acquired by the State of Nevada in 1971 and was restored to operation at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, where it handles the majority of the museum’s steam train operations.
